The Challenge
My client wanted her bedroom to feel sophisticated, elegant and cosy. The room presented several design challenges. As a north-facing bedroom with a relatively small window, it received limited natural light, making it essential to create a scheme that felt warm. To counterbalance this, I selected a soft, warm green for the walls, adding depth and warmth while enhancing the room's tranquil atmosphere.
Storage was another key priority. She needed generous wardrobe space but was keen to avoid filling the room with multiple smaller pieces of furniture, such as sideboards or a chest of drawers, which would have made the space feel cluttered and visually busy. The existing layout also left awkward circulation areas and failed to make the most of the room's proportions, so the design needed to maximise functionality while maintaining a refined, uncluttered aesthetic.
The Solution
The bed was repositioned to become the focal point of the room, creating a balanced composition framed by elegant wall mouldings and matching bedside tables for a timeless, hotel-inspired feel.
Instead of relying on several smaller storage pieces, we designed a full-height bespoke wardrobe that provides ample storage while maintaining clean, uninterrupted lines.
The warm green wall colour was paired with rich walnut joinery, soft upholstery and layered textiles to enhance the sense of warmth, an essential consideration in a north-facing room with limited natural light. Finally, we introduced a comfortable reading corner beside the window, making use of an otherwise underutilised area and adding another layer of comfort to the room.
